WhatsApp has been working on the integration of UPI payments system in the app. It doesn’t seem that the WhatsApp will take much time to roll out the feature as it’s spotted in the beta version of the Android app. According to WABetaInfo, the UPI payment system page is hidden in the beta version 2.17.285 of the app. The WhatsApp payments feature will allow users to instantly transfer money using UPI as it works on IMPS protocol.

Back in February, Brian Acton, the founder of WhatsApp assured that the firm is working on the integration of UPI while he visited India. Whereas now, after five months we are seeing the feature is getting ready for roll out to the 200 million users in the India. Due to demonetization of Rs.500 and Rs.1000 currencies in India the mobile wallet services like Paytm, and Mobikiwik has grown a lot.

However, the other IM messaging apps like Hike and WeChat already supports digital payments services. But both of them doesn’t have large user base compared to the popular messaging app, WhatsApp. Recently, the Facebook-owned app announced that it has 1.3 billion monthly active users and over 55 billion messages are sent daily by the users.
