Samsung’s Marketing Costs Hit $10 Billion in 2016

In 2016 we saw two of the tech industry giants, Samsung and LG increase their budget for marketing.

Compared to 2015, Samsung expanded their marketing budget 24% to a total of $10.2 Billion. This huge focus on marketing was largely done to get the reputation of their Smartphones back, after the exploding Galaxy Note 7 fiasco of last year.

On the other hand, Samsung’s biggest South Korean rival, LG increased their marketing expenditure by 15% to reach a total of $1.6 Billion. Unlike Samsung, LG spent much of their marketing budget promoting their high-tech home electronic products. The biggest marketing move from LG came as a Superbowl commercial in the US which featured a TV commercial of the latest LG OLED television.

As the competition in the tech space is getting fiercer, we do expect tech majors like Samsung and LG to boost their marketing finances and techniques in 2017 as well.
