At the KES (Korea Electronics Show), LG exhibited a new type of all in one module capable of serving both as an iris scanner and a camera by changing filters. Note 7 was equipped with almost similar technology. The device featured a dual front camera. One camera was dedicated to shoot selfies while the other camera (more sensitive) was dedicated for the purpose of iris scan. As per reports, LG is looking to combine the strengths of both these cameras with a filter-changing mechanism.

Implications of using such a camera component are not very far-reaching, but however, the total cost is cut if compared against a simple dual front camera set up with iris scanning capability.

As per Korean publication Digital Times, this new LG sensor covers only 0.36 SQ. Cm whereas other genuine iris scanner setups covers a minimum of 0.47 SQ. Cm.
