Hugo Barra, the most prominent face of Xiaomi, and the man who helped the company transcend the Chinese frontiers to plant a global foot, has announced his exit from the company. He is resigning from the role of Xiaomi’s Vice President and plans to make a return to Silicon Valley.
The announcement has been made through a Facebook post, in which he said:
“What I’ve realized is that the last few years of living in such a singular environment have taken a huge toll on my life and started affecting my health. My friends, what I consider to be my home, and my life are back in Silicon Valley, which is also much closer to my family. Seeing how much I’ve left behind these past few years, it is clear to me that the time has come to return.”
Hugo Barra is credited with successfully transforming Xiaomi into a global behemoth, so much so that it has gained a strong position in around 20 countries. His leadership has made Xiaomi earn a whopping $1 billion revenue in India in 2016.
Talking about his future plans, Barra said that he will pause down a bit before taking up a new job in Silicon Valley.
