Huawei announces Matebook X, Matebook D, and Matebook E

After setting its sights high in the smartphone segment, Huawei aims to conquer it all in the lucrative laptop segment as well. The company had some mixed feelings last year when it launched the 2-in-1 Matebook. But this year Huawei has decided to go all out in the premium laptop market.

This year the company launched not just but three Matebooks at an event in Berlin, Germany. The MateBook E is this year’s iteration of 2016’s 2-in-1 Matebook while the Matebook D and Matebook X compete head-on with the Apple MacBook and MacBook Pro. The Matebook X is the high-end model here matching Apple’s product specs and also providing very good build quality. Of course, all the three devices will run Windows 10.

The device has a gorgeous 13-inch Quad HD display with 3:2 aspect ratio although it is not touch-sensitive, It has powerful i5 or i7 processors depending on the model you choose. With the 41.4Wh battery, the device can last up tp 10 hours on a single charge. The device looks beautiful with the 4.4mm bezels and 88 percent screen to body ratio. It also has a fanless design and incorporates what Huawei calls a Space Cooling Technology.

With the Matebook X, you will get to choose between 256GB SSD or 512GB SSD of storage. For RAM options of 4GB and 8GB are available. One of the areas where the Matebook excels is the Audio quality. The Matebook speakers have deen designed with help from Dolby to provide an immersive experience. The power button doubles up as a fingerprint sensor. The Matebook X is available in three colors namely Prestige Gold, Space Gray and Rose Gold.

The Matebook D is more of a mid-range laptop. Specs are also watered down compared to the Matebook X. A demo piece was not available at the launch event. The device has a 15.6-inch Full HD 1080p display. You are offered Intel’s 7th Generation i5 and i7 processors along with 4GB, 8GB, or 16GB of RAM decided by what you will pay. Also optional are the NVIDIA GeForce 940MX Graphics and Dolby Atmos Sound System.

And Lastly, there is the more affordable Matebook E which will compete with the Surface Pro.
The Marebook E retains the 2K screen from the Matebook X and gets a great screen to body ratio of 84 percent. It comes along with the New Folio Keyboard. The device can be tilted up to 160 degrees much like the newly launched Surface Pro. The Matebook E assures an excellent battery backup of 9 hours.

All the newly launched Huawei models will become available this summer in China, Japan, the U.S., France, Italy and Saudi Arabia.
